Carico's blade, bolster, and tang start from a single block of high carbon, stain-resistant surgical steel alloy. There is no better steel available anywhere in the world. This high carbon, stain-resistant alloy contains chromium (for corrosion resistance), as well as molybdenum and vanadium (for toughness and flexibility). This same combination of ingredients is used extensively in surgical instruments where only the best will do.
All Carico's professional knives are forged, one at a time, by veteran blacksmiths. A ribbon of white-hot steel is grasped by a blacksmiths's tongs from a forge and held on an anvil as an immense mechanical hammer thunders down twice a second. Gradually, the Carico knife shape begins to develop.
Carico's cutlery must be ground by hand, due to the forge bolster at the foot of each blade.
